Young singer will perform tonight at the West Bank Stage

We recently interviewed singer Colbie Caillat in her dressing room after a performance on the TV show “The View.”

Here’s what the young singer, who will perform tonight at the Wichita River Festival, had to say about crushes, nicknames and battling your fears.

Did you write the song “Bubbly” for anyone special?

No. I didn’t write “Bubbly” for any guy. I wrote it about the feelings you get when you have a crush on somebody, and when they give you butterflies in your stomach and they just make you smile.

Tell us about your music video for “Bubbly.”

It was shot in my hometown of Malibu and in Santa Barbara in southern California. It was just about being by the beach and having a wonderful day with a person you like. It captures that whole feeling.

Why did you name your album “Coco”?

Coco is the nickname that my parents have been calling me since I was a little baby. And then every one of my friends and my producers started calling me Coco. And I thought it would be a good name for the album.

What is your favorite song you have ever written?

My favorite song is “Battle,” because I wrote the whole song in about an hour. It was all these emotions that I had inside of me. It was about a really serious issue.

What are your favorite things to do when you are not singing?

Hang out with my friends and family and my three dogs. I go to the beach or something. I live near the water.

Were you ever in your school’s chorus?

No. I thought it was a different style of singing and I didn’t want to train my voice in that way. It was the kind of direction I wanted to go for. I would sing at talent shows and sing songs I like to sing. I took vocal lessons growing up.

What’s the best advice you have gotten? And what can you tell those who want to join the music business?

I have a fear and that is stage fright. I get really nervous when I go on stage. Everyone told me to overcome that fear; go out and do it and conquer it. It is a long process, but I am still doing it. What I recommend to everyone else is, everyone gets nervous and everyone has a fear but if you overcome it, then you feel better and you are not hiding anything.

If you could do a duet with anyone, who would it be?

John Mayer. I love his voice.
